Beaches and Ponds
Dowses Beach
One of Osterville’s crown jewels, Dowses Beach stretches across a narrow peninsula, giving visitors both bay-side calm and Nantucket Sound waves in one location. The wide sandy beach, dunes, and sweeping views make it perfect for families and beachgoers of all ages. Lifeguards are on duty in season, with restrooms and changing areas available. Parking requires a Barnstable beach pass, so plan ahead.
“Baby Beach” (Wianno Avenue)
At the very end of Wianno Avenue sits a small sandy shoreline fondly known to locals as “Baby Beach.” This neighborhood spot is quiet, shallow, and easy to manage with little ones, making it especially popular with young families. While not as large or developed as other beaches, it offers a charming, tucked-away place to dip your toes in the water and take in the harbor views.
Joshua’s Pond
Tucked away off Tower Hill Road, Joshua’s Pond is a freshwater retreat known for its cool, spring-fed waters and peaceful setting. With sandy shores and quiet woodland trails, it’s a favorite spot for families, kayakers, and swimmers looking for a calm alternative to the ocean. A Barnstable beach pass is required, and parking is limited, which helps keep this little gem serene and uncrowded.
Micah’s Pond
Micah’s Pond offers a rustic, off-the-beaten-path swimming experience in the woodlands of Osterville. With a rope swing and a natural, unspoiled shoreline, it’s a longtime local secret for those who enjoy a more adventurous swim. There are no facilities here, so bring what you need and be prepared for a simple, back-to-nature kind of day.
