Walking in Osterville

Village to Dowses Beach Loop
Start in the village center and head down Wianno Avenue to East Bay Road. Continue toward Dowses Beach for gorgeous water views, then turn back along East Bay Road. Please note: East Bay Road does not have sidewalks, so use caution. At the end of East Bay Road, turn left onto Main Street to complete a loop back to the heart of the village. This is a favorite walk for many residents and visitors.

Sunset Strolls
Walking down West Bay Road or Bay Street is especially beautiful at sunset, with sweeping views across the water.

Explore Freely
The best way to experience Osterville is to park in the village, set out at your own pace, and explore. Whether you’re walking past shops, along the bays, or toward the beach, you’ll discover something new at every turn.

Take the Osterville History Walk, a 1.5-mile narrated route hosted by the library that highlights local landmarks and historical information. Go at your own pace. Pick up your free tour card at the library.

Biking in Osterville

Wianno & Parker Loop
Ride down Wianno Avenue, turn onto Sea View Ave. , loop down Parker Road and Eel River Road, then follow to the end of Sea View Avenue for stunning water views before looping back.

Every Route is Scenic
Wherever you go in Osterville, you’ll find quiet lanes, tree-lined streets, and views of bays and inlets that make every ride special. Just take care on narrower roads, watch for cars, and enjoy the beauty all around.

Fishing in Osterville

Dowses Beach Inlet Pier
Handicap-accessible pier with catches like striped bass, bluefish, and scup. The adjacent jetty is a popular casting spot.

The Bays (West, North, Prince’s Cove)
Calm waters perfect for kayak or small-boat fishing. In cooler months, larger striped bass often move into the bays.

Osterville Cut (Sea View Avenue Jetty)
Known for strong currents and active feeding fish. A prime spot for casting lures at dawn or dusk.

Offshore & Seasonal
Summer and fall bring bluefish, false albacore, bonito, and even Spanish mackerel offshore.

Fishing Tips:

  • Sunrise and tide changes are the most productive times.
  • A Massachusetts saltwater fishing permit is required.
